With the COVID-19 pandemic at large, everyone is trying to maintain their personal hygiene but what about your car’s cleanliness? Imagine while spending time in your car, you eat, you drink, you smoke, you accidentally spill drinks and you kick muddy shoes around. Is it worth spending the time to clean your car and maintain it’s interior hygiene? The pandemic has provided the perfect opportunity for you to clean your car, especially in the spirit of spring cleaning too. Here are 5 of the dirtiest spots that most people tend to overlook.

    1.Steering wheel

Being one of the most touched parts of your car, the steering wheel is one of the dirtiest places in your car. It’s where you sneeze, cough and sweat without noticing, and these fluid droplets caused by sneezing, coughing and sweating from your palm can all rest on your steering wheel! This created the optimal environment for germs to grow and soon your steering wheel is swarmed with them! You then proceed to place both of your hands on the steering wheel and make contact with those germs without paying any attention. This can pose as a health risk for you, especially if you tend to use your car frequently.

    2.Floor mats

Yup, floor mats. Your floor mats can end up dirty caused by the mud from your shoes, or even food that you have eaten before. First, you step into your car with your shoes on, all the mud and sand that stuck in your shoes end up on the floor mats. Not forgetting crumbs and leftover food from your in-car dining sessions! These little pieces of gunk and food crumbs are the best place for germs to grow and cause your car interior to smell bad!

    3.Seats

Speaking of car seats, there are crevices in between car seats and it can be a gathering place for dirt and grime! Dirt like crumbs, dust, hair and fur can easily fall and get trapped in the cracks between car seats, again providing the perfect breeding ground for germs and bacteria. If you haven’t got rid of the food crumbs in time, these food crumbs can attract small insects to build their home! Some insects might carry deadly diseases and it will affect you if you are bitten or stung by them.

    4. Cup holders

You, like many others, spend a considerable amount of time commuting to work in your car. Picture this scenario, you’ve just grabbed a cuppa as a pick-me-up and you make a sharp turn. Oops! A little bit of that caffeinated goodness made its way out the lid and into your cup holders! If noticed and cleaned immediately, it can end up staining your cup holders and making them all sticky, eww!

    5. Trunk

The trunk is often loaded with different objects, such as umbrellas, shoes, coats etc. From everyday items such as bags and luggage,or even grocery goods! For example, when you load your trunk with groceries like frozen food, it leaves wet stains on your trunk floor and these wet spots can cause germs to breed rapidly. Or even when you put your wet umbrella back to your trunk after getting back home during rainy days, these wet stains can become the best opportunity for bacteria to grow.

So what can you do to keep your car clean?

Use disinfectant spray or wipes to clean your car interior

Before you disinfect your car interior, use a wet cloth to wipe off the stains caused by soft drinks, then use a dry cloth to wipe again to leave the surface dry. After the surface is dried, use a medical grade disinfectant wipes or spray that can eliminate 99.99% of bacteria such as the Oxtra Nano Clean Spray. Remember to disinfect all touchpoints such as the steering wheel, gear shifter, touch screens, cup holders, car windows and radio knob.

    Clean your car mat

Next, it is time to clean your car mat. First, take out your car mat and shake off all the dirt and crumbs that stuck inside your car mat. If you are using our Trapo car mats, you only need to make a few taps to get rid of all the dirt, all thanks to its deep trap reservoir. Secondly, wash your car mats thoroughly with water to get rid of all the dust particles and dry your car mat under the sun. Some car mats might take up to an hour to dry but Trapo car mats only take 15 minutes to dry due to its waterproof function and it helps to eliminate 99.99% of bacteria, germs and viruses. Leaving you a hassle free cleaning!

    Weekly vacuums

Like mentioned, particles like fine dust and crumbs can easily be embedded in your cat mats and crevices between car seats. Shaking off your car mats will not get rid of everything because there will be small particles clinging onto your car mats. Vacuuming your car interior will help you to get rid of stubborn dust particles from your car mats and crumbs hidden in crevices of your car seats. Hence, vacuuming your car regularly can prevent dust particles from building up and keeps your car cleaner. If you are thinking that vacuuming your car interior is a big challenge for you due to the size of the vacuum (which is big and bulky), you can consider getting the TRAPO Handheld Car Vacuum that is perfect for car interior cleaning due to its compact and portable size with strong suction power. The best part is, it comes with a four meters long cable that is enough for you to vacuum every part of your car effortlessly!
