When it comes to protecting the floorboard in your vehicle, there are two options you can use:
What is the difference?
The main difference between these items is their effectiveness and design. Floor mats are basically pieces of rubber, carpet, EVA foam or a combination of two materials. Some floor mats are even created with trap reservoirs to trap debris effectively. With floor liners, they provide lips or walls around the edges that help trap debris and liquid and spill.
Difference between floor mats and floor liners
There are a few things you need to pay attention when deciding floor mats and floor liners such as:
Speaking about thickness of the floor mats, it might not seem like a determining factor but thickness plays an important role in your floor covering’s efficacy. The thicker the floor mat, the more cushioning for your feet. Some floor mats like carpet, it helps to absorb more liquids BUT also making it more challenging to clean!
Choose the product that has high edges around the rim OR with deep grooves and ridges to prevent liquid from spilling. When you’re looking at plastic or rubber mat, grooves and ridges are the key to keeping your car interior clean. Because you want them to be deep enough to keep spills from getting into your floorboard or even preventing debris from lingering around on the floorboard.
Last thing you want to do is to buy a car mat that stays firmly on the floorboard. You wouldn’t want to have your car mats or car liners from sliding and slipping around on the floorboard, that prevents the driver from reaching to the pedals. This is why it is important to pay attention to the bottom of the floor mats or liners you want to buy. Ideally, there will be some sort of hook or nubs that can be attached to the floorboard to hold the mat in place.
TRAPO offers a variety of car floor mats that helps to maintain the hygiene of your car interior.
TRAPO HEX II: Our most premium car mat, Trapo Hex II is now 5x times more durable than the previous generation, all thanks to the tougher materials that result in a car with increased hardness.

What’s the best option?
There’s no best option but it always comes down to your individual needs when trying to select between car floor mats and floor liners. If you’re having an older vehicle with worn carpets, an inexpensive set of floor mats such as Trapo Eco II will probably work great. On the other hand, if you have a brand-new car, you might want something that will fit better and provide more protection from nature such as Trapo Hex II. If you spend a lot of time off-roading, cleaning up spills from the back-seat (from kids), you probably need Trapo Classic Mark III because it is super easy to clean, antibacterial 99.9% and waterproof.
