There will be 2 things to consider:
1) If the coaster absorbs water then this will just evaporate after a few minutes.

It really worked the way it should, the way it is advertised. It dries up very quickly. Even with a super cold drink, it absorbs very fast. It does get overwhelmed with water, but once you pour excess water away or wipe it away, the coaster dries up quickly. During first use there is some white residue, but it's easily wiped off.
